What is a logo?
A logo is your brand’s unique identifier. Think about Amazon, Nike, Apple, Chick-fil-A, all you would need to see is their symbol to know exactly who the company is and what their values are.
A good logo brandmark shouldn’t need the name of the company attached to it, it should be able to stand out by itself and represent your brand.
Your logo should identify the trait or traits that make you stand out among your competition. A customer should be able to pick out your brand amongst a room full of your competitors at a glance.
Is a logo REALLY that important?
It depends—do you want to blend in or be bold?
Your logo can truly help or hurt your business. Let’s say you have a painting business and you want your logo to include a paint can or paintbrush. But just by a quick Google search, you can see that EVERY OTHER painter also uses a paintbrush or a paint can. Your brand would blend right in. And your business would not look any different from the competition.
So, what could a distinguishing factor be? Well, what do you paint? Houses? Offices? Fences? Are you local to a specific area, or do you travel? Can you incorporate your business name into your unique logo symbol?
